Babies

Amy loves babies. And why would she not - lots of children (not just girls) do. Any time there's a baby in the vicinity, Amy will do her best to look at it. There have been times when she's gone from grumpy to smiley while we're out without me especially noticing, and then I realise that a nearby baby is the recipient of her smiles.

I try to get people to introduce their babies to Amy, because it makes her happy. But they don't always think to do it. Is it because she appears baby-like herself? She is little, and non-mobile, and cries and babbles, and needs to be fed and changed and carried around. But she clearly doesn't think of herself as a baby. There is a dignity and a separateness about her that is obvious when she is alongside a 'real' baby. She is as dependent as a newborn (more so, actually - because newborns don't usually get bored as rapidly as she does, or as frustrated with themselves), but in her head, she's above all that.
